Andy murray, Gael Monfils, Rafael Nadal, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Juan Martin Del Potro and Fernando Gonzalez are through the the last 16.
Andy Murray eased into the last 16 of the US Open at Flushing Meadows with a dominant straight-sets win over American wild card Taylor Dent.
The British world number two was never in any serious trouble against the big-serving serve and volleyer, taking the contest 6-3 6-2 6-2 in just one hour and 30 minutes at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Murray's success lay in countering Dent's strategy with his trademark service returns, keeping 88% in play and scoring eight return winners, and well judged cross-court passing shots.
"I returned really, really well and that was probably the key to the match," Murray said during an on court interview. "I managed to finish the match off well and served well.
"I've always liked playing against serve and volleyers. I used to practice a lot with my brother and he used to serve and volley when we were young and that probably helped me.
"I just try and take the ball in front and I managed to do that well tonight."
Murray, who reached the final last year before losing to Roger Federer, will now play Croatian 16th seed Marin Cilic for a place in the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
Third seed Rafael Nadal advanced to the fourth round but not without an injury scare in New York.
Nadal ousted fellow Spaniard Nicolas Almagro, the 32nd seed, 7-5 6-4 6-4 in two hours and 39 minutes but in the third set called for the trainer after what tournament officials described as an aggravation of a right abdominal injury first suffered last month during his Cincinnati Masters semi-final defeat to Novak Djokovic.
"I feel it a little bit now," Nadal said of his injury. "I will try my best to recover for the next match.
"I'm here to work hard and try my best all the time.
"It was a difficult match but it's important to win and I'm very happy to be in the fourth round. It was a good win against Nico and I'm very happy for that."
The third seed will continue his bid for a career Grand Slam against 13th seed Gael Monfils of France who was 6-3 6-4 1-0 ahead of Jose Acasuso when the Argentinian retired because of injury.
Gilles Simon also suffered an injury on Sunday as the ninth seed was forced to retire hurt with a knee problem during his clash against Juan Carlos Ferrero with the score at 1-6 6-4 7-6 (7-5) 1-0 to the Spaniard.
Next up for the Spaniard is sixth seed Juan Martin Del Potro. The Argentine beat Daniel Koellerer 6-1 3-6 6-3 6-3 to move closer to a potential quarter-final clash against Andy Murray.
Seventh Jo-Wilfried Tsonga progressed to the last 16 with a 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 6-4 victory over Julien Benneteau and he will now take on Fernando Gonzalez after the Chilean defeated Tomas Berdych.
