Kim Clijsters' US Open dream continues after she beat third seed Venus Williams in a three-set thriller in New York.
The Belgian wildcard, who retired from the tour two years ago before returning to the game last month, prevailed 6-0 0-6 6-4 in the fourth round contest which will be regarded as one of the matches of the tournament.
"It's unbelievable, I don't know what to say, such a weird match after those first two sets," Clijsters said.
"When I lost the second set 6-0 I just said 'let's start over and really fight for each point'."
Next up for the 2005 US Open champion is the 18th seed Na Li who overcame Italian Francesca Schiavone 6-2 6-3.
There was better news for the Williams family as second seed Serena bludgeoned her way into the quarter-finals with a straight-sets destruction of Daniela Hantuchova.
The Slovakian held her own in the early stages but it was one-way traffic thereafter as Williams - now the highest seed left in the tournament following the demise of the top-ranked Dinara Safina on Saturday night - blew her away 6-2 6-0 in 64 minutes.
Williams, a three-time winner at Flushing Meadows, looked strong on both wings and was rarely troubled on serve as she set up a last-eight clash against either Vera Zvonareva or Flavia Pennetta.
Meanwhile, Great Britain's Laura Robson and Heather Robson have both progressed in the junior girls' singles after they won their respective first round matches.
